GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES

AUGUST 28TH-SEPTEMBER 7TH

Over the course of 30 years, the lives of Kayleen and Doug intersect at the most bizarre intervals, leading the two childhood friends to compare scars and the physical calamities that keep drawing them together. The two friends and would-be lovers meet at eight years old in the nurse’s office of their elementary school; Kayleen has a painful stomachache and Doug a nasty scrape. As they grow up, they continue to come back to each other, brought together by injury, heartbreak and their own self-destructive tendencies. A compelling and totally non-rom com feel good play that is as profound as it is funny!

Restless Artists’ Auditions: RAT 10th Season Auditions

RAT'S AMAZING 10TH SEASON

SWING STATE

By Rebecca Gilman.

Drama with Comedy

Cast size: 1m., 3w.

Recently widowed, Peg tends to the 40 acres of native prairie that rises behind her rural Wisconsin home. Her solitary days are interrupted only by visits from Ryan, a family friend with a checkered past. When her late husband’s footlocker is ransacked in her barn, she places a call to the local authorities—unwittingly setting off a series of events that will forever change their lives. As Peg and Ryan fight to regain each other’s trust, they learn how to help one another in a new and meaningful way and how to forge a sense of hope in a time when it feels like everyone’s way of life is in danger of disappearing.

THE MIRACLE OF BALLYDONAL

by James Caputo

Comedy

Cast 3M, 1F

A bit of humor, a bit of romance, a bit of irreverence, a bit of Irish fairy tale. On a foggy Christmas Eve in a pub in Ballydonal, a small remote village that time and place have forgotten, 3 men gather to say farewell to Eileen. A newborn is discovered in the loo. All three men believe the child is theirs and will right their lives. Stories of an assignation with the Virgin Mary, whispers from God, and baptism by Guinness, lead to a resolution for all. But it is through the healing nature of forgiveness, redemption, love, and family, that a true miracle is achieved.

MS. HOLMES & MS. WATSON – APT 2B

by Kate Hamill

Comedy Adventure

Cast 1M, 3F

An irreverent, darkly comic, modern take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous sleuth and sidekick. This fast-paced romp re-examines the world’s most famous detective story with a bold new feminist lens. In this highly theatrical, small-cast escapade, oddball female roommates Sherlock (yes, it’s also a girl’s name—wait, is it a girl’s name? Is it even a name?) Holmes & Joan Watson join forces to emerge from pandemic fog as a deeply codependent, quasi-dysfunctional Odd Couple adventure duo—solving mysteries and kicking butts, until they come face to face with a villain who seems to have all of the answers.

I NEED THAT

By Theresa Rebeck

Comedy

Cast 2M 1F

Sam doesn’t get out much. Actually, he doesn’t get out at all, opting instead for the safety of his house in the company of his things – his many, many things. But when a notice from the government arrives alerting Sam that he must clean up his property or face eviction, he’s forced to reckon with what’s trash, what’s treasure, and whether we can ever know the difference between the two.

HOW TO KILL A RODENT

by Eleanor McCaughey

Dark Comedy

1m 1f, 1 any

The show follows Canadians Guy and Carrie on a road trip to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania only days before Groundhog Day. In an effort to commit a minor act of terrorism against the United States, Guy is determined to assassinate Punxsutawney Phil, that magical prognosticating groundhog, on live television before he is able to predict the weather. American politics are absurd and at times quite ludicrous: From elections to scandals, the U.S. has a rich history of almost laughable civic moments. “How to Kill a Rodent” celebrates the oddities and humor in America and its history while also taking a deeper look at the issues that plague the “greatest country in the world.”

KILL LOCAL

By Matt Smart

Dark Comedy

Cast 1m, 4f

Sheila and her sister, Abigail, work for their mother’s small family business. Sheila’s job used to be a source of joy and exhilaration; now she’s questioning everything. But when you’re an assassin, being uninspired means getting sloppy, and getting sloppy means getting killed. Kill Local is a pitch-black comedy about blood ties, revenge, and trying to get unstuck – especially when your life is dedicated to ending others’.

BURST

By Rachel Bublitz

Drama with Comedy

Cast size: 3w

Sarah Boyd is an extraordinary human being. Not only did she build her company from scratch, she also sits on the precipice of truly saving this planet. Because on top of being one of the fastest growing tech companies in history, Tactix will usher this planet into the post-plastic era—a time where we need not worry or fret over the great destruction being done to our world from this non-biodegradable foe. With her eyes steady on her next round of funding, Sarah must persevere through a late-night interview with a particularly tough reporter, a lawsuit aimed at a person from her past and the waffling of her CTO. It’s a heavy load, and Sarah knows that she is the only one great enough to bear it.
